Turbos Likely in Future BMW M-Series

Great news for forced induction enthusiests – BMW has reveiled that turbocharged M lineups are likely in the (not so) far future. To comply with upcoming stricter emissions standards, big V8 and V10 engines aren’t going to cut it anymore so the shift is to go to smaller, turbocharged motors. More details here, at MotorTrend. Its about time, considering the success of the *35 twin turbo trim.
Along with everybody else, BMW faces strict, new U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy and European Union CO2 standards, and must power lighter cars with more fuel-efficient engines. A turbo-six will replace the M3’s 400-horsepower, 4.0L V-8 and a 300-plus-horsepower turbo four will rocket a 1 Series M (just don’t call it an M1).
